William F. (Bill) Greenwood

Devoted, loving husband, and father, dedicated teacher and always a proud Marine. William (Bill) F. Greenwood passed peacefully on July 20th surrounded by his wife of 68 years, Alma, and their four children.

Born April 25, 1927 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he lived until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1945. Following the war, he returned home and enrolled at the University of Idaho.

Recalled in 1950, Bill served during the Korean War until he was medically discharged. He returned home and to the University of Idaho, where he met and married Alma in 1956.

After graduation, Bill taught in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for a year before moving to Tenino, Washington where he taught for 3 years. He finished his teaching career at Tumwater before retiring in 1980.

Following his retirement, Bill purchased and operated a precast concrete plant. When that was sold, they moved to Anderson Island and RVed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico finally purchasing a winter home in Desert Hot Springs, CA.

In 2003, they returned to Tumwater where Bill continued to spend time with family and participated in the Marine Corps League, the 1st Marine Division Association, and Kiwanis.

Bill is survived by his wife, Alma, and their children and spouses: Kathy and Ken Thompson, Christy and Terry Munro, Bill and Aimee Greenwood, and Holly and Jeff Austin; grandsons: Adam and Brad Thompson; Robert and Bryan Edwards; and Alex and Nicholas Detzler, and five great-grandchildren.
