A local man has ended his life a few days after he was released from jail for voyeurism involving a member of his family, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office. .
On October 1, a woman contacted the authorities and reported that her husband had allegedly secretly recorded a family member as she was changing in her room.
According to the police report, the family member found the man’s phone hidden in her room; it was recording a video.
The woman called the authorities and gave them her husband’s phone.
Investigators viewed the last video in the phone and stated that it contained content that established probable cause for a charge of voyeurism.
Sheriff’s deputies proceeded to the family’s residence and found the suspect. Police reported that the suspect’s “facial expression did not change, and he did not seem surprised to see uniformed deputies.”
When asked by responding officers if he knew why they were present, the father reportedly nodded and stated, “I do.”
Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect without incident. According to their report, they charged him with 1st-degree voyeurism with a “domestic violence tag.”
“Based upon the [discussion between the family member and the man], there was an expectation of [the family member] returning to … [an area of] expected privacy and changing,” stated the TCSO in the incident report.
On Wednesday, October 4, three days after the incident, the wife discovered a note left by her husband.
The wife immediately called 911; TCSO deputies responded to the scene and located the man’s body.
“We observed nothing suspicious about the passing of the suspect that would have indicated anything other than an apparent suicide,” police stated in their report.
