JAS hooks up with pet database to find missing furbabies

Two local animal welfare groups have teamed up to launch a campaign to help pet owners who have lost their pets.

Joint Animal Services (JSA) announced in a statement that it has joined with Petco Love, a national non-profit organization “working to lead and inspire change for pets,” to help pet owners reunite with their lost pets.

“Sadly, according to industry statistics, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime,” JSA claims.

JSA describes Petco as “a free, searchable national database that uses patented image recognition technology to make finding lost pets quicker and easier, as well as reuniting found pets in communities across the country.”

Owners can upload photos of lost or found cats and dogs to the Petco Love Lost website, which will be checked against partner groups and individuals who may be looking for or have found the animal.

According to Petco Love President Susanne Kogut, one in three pets goes missing in their lifetime, resulting in ten million pet losses in a year.

“That gives us ten million reasons why we created Petco Love Lost, because we believe nothing is more important than keeping people and pets together for a lifetime of love. Together with Joint Animal Services, our goal is to Unite to Reunite and keep pets where they belong - at home, with you.” 

“There’s nothing more rewarding than reuniting families with their beloved pets and with Petco Love Lost, we’re confident it can lead to many more happy reunions, right here in Thurston County,” said JAS executive director Sarah Hock.
