Edwin Oscar Ulgasan Gutierrez, Jr. – news@theJOLTnews.com – is an associate editor of The JOLT.

Jay, as he’s called by friends, started writing for newspapers to avoid a whoopin’ when he lost all his books back in grade school.

He carried on in high school, discovering he could skip school work if he wrote for the school paper. In an effort to suck up to his college professor, Jay eventually became a cub reporter for Mindanews, a local news outfit.

He is a graduate of Ateneo de Davao University and, following a two-year career as a reporter, worked for 10 years as a high school teacher and journalism coach while writing on the side. His journalism students won top awards at national competitions for ten years and he was honored as the Most Outstanding Newspaper Advisor in the Philippines.
